# WhatsApp chat analyzer

> See who talks most, when the chat is busiest and what was shared. Your browser does the counting, so the file stays on your device.

**This free analyzer reads a WhatsApp chat export in your browser** and shows messages per person, the busiest days and hours, top words, links, photos, voice notes and documents, and the chat's date range. Nothing is uploaded: it is a free tool from Circles, which connects your WhatsApp to your AI agent.

Your file never leaves your device. This page reads it in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

**Want your AI to do this live, on the chats you pick?** Circles connects your WhatsApp to ChatGPT, Claude or Instinct. You choose which chats it can read, and ask about them any time, voice notes included as text. See how Circles works: https://usecircles.app/en?utm_source=tool&utm_medium=analyzer

## How to export a WhatsApp chat

WhatsApp exports one chat at a time, from your phone. Without media is quicker, and the analyzer still counts what was shared.

1. **On an iPhone**: Open the chat, tap its name at the top, then **Export chat**. Choose **Without media** and save the .zip to Files, or AirDrop it to your computer.
2. **On an Android phone**: Open the chat, tap the three dots, then **More** and **Export chat**. Choose **Without media** and save the .txt to your files, or send it to yourself.
3. **Drop it above**: Drop the .zip or the .txt on the analyzer, or tap it to choose the file. It works on a phone too.

The menu names change a little between WhatsApp versions; WhatsApp's own help page shows the current ones.

## What the analyzer counts

- **Messages per person**, and how many words each person wrote.
- **The busiest days**, and the chat's busiest hours and days of the week.
- **Top words**, without the small ones like "the" and "and", in English and Hebrew.
- **What was shared**: links, photos, videos, voice notes, documents and stickers, and how many messages were deleted.
- **The date range**: the first and last message, and how many days had messages.

It reads exports from iPhone and Android phones, with 12- or 24-hour times and the date in any order. Messages that run over several lines count once, and the lines WhatsApp writes itself (someone joined, the group changed its name) count for nobody.

## Your chat stays on your device

The analyzer is a small script that runs in your browser. It opens the file you choose, counts it and draws the results on this page. It never sends the file, or anything in it, to Circles or to anyone else. Once the page has loaded, it works with your internet switched off.

That is the same idea behind Circles itself: you decide which chats an AI gets to see. Read more on the [security page](https://usecircles.app/en/security).

## Questions and answers

### Is my chat uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file and counts it on your device, and Circles never receives it. You can load the page, switch off your internet and the analyzer still works.

### Does it work with iPhone and Android exports?

Yes. It reads the .zip an iPhone makes and the .txt an Android phone makes, with 12- or 24-hour times and day-first or month-first dates.

### Can it listen to voice notes or open photos?

It counts them by type. It does not open, play or transcribe them. To ask an AI about what a voice note said, Circles transcribes voice notes automatically, in Hebrew and English.

### Does it work for big groups?

Yes. A group with years of messages takes a few seconds. Export without media for the smallest file; the analyzer still counts what was shared.

### How is this different from Circles?

The analyzer looks at one export, once. Circles connects your WhatsApp to your AI agent, so you can ask about the chats you choose any time, without exporting anything. See [Circles' plans](https://usecircles.app/en/pricing).
