WhatsApp chat to PDF

Drop a WhatsApp chat export to see it drawn like WhatsApp, photos included, then save it as a PDF. Your browser does the work, so the chat stays on your device.

Updated

Your file never leaves your device. This page draws the chat in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

This free converter draws a WhatsApp chat export the way WhatsApp shows it, in your browser: bubbles with names and times, the date of each day, photos from the .zip inline, and Hebrew right to left. Your browser's print window saves it as a PDF. Nothing is uploaded: it is a free tool from Circles, which connects your WhatsApp to your AI agent.

Next time, find it by asking your AI. Circles connects ChatGPT, Claude or Instinct to the WhatsApp chats you choose.

How to export a WhatsApp chat

WhatsApp exports one chat at a time, from your phone. Include the media to get the photos in the PDF.

  1. On an iPhone

Open the chat, tap its name at the top, then Export chat. Choose Attach media for the photos, and save the .zip to Files, or AirDrop it to your computer.

  2. On an Android phone

Open the chat, tap the three dots, then More and Export chat. Choose Include media and save what WhatsApp makes. A .zip brings the photos along; a .txt alone makes the PDF without them.

  3. Drop it above

Drop the .zip or the .txt on the converter, or tap it to choose the file. It works on a phone too.

Step by step, with what each menu is called: how to export a WhatsApp chat to PDF.

How to save it as a PDF

Your browser makes the PDF, with its own print window. The page prints the chat alone, without this page around it.

  1. On a computer

Press Save as PDF. In the print window, choose Save as PDF as the printer or destination, then save.

  2. On an iPhone

Press Save as PDF, then the share button at the top of the print options, and Save to Files.

  3. On an Android phone

Press Save as PDF, choose Save as PDF as the printer, then the PDF button.

What the PDF shows

  • Every message in a bubble, with the sender's name and the time, and the date at the start of each day.
  • Your side and theirs. Choose whose messages are yours, and they move to their own side, the way your phone shows them. In a chat of two, the converter guesses from the export's name.
  • Photos inline, from an export with media. Voice notes, videos and documents are named in their bubble, with their file's name.
  • Hebrew and Arabic right to left, each message in its own direction, so a chat that mixes languages reads well.
  • The lines WhatsApp writes itself, like who joined, in the middle, as WhatsApp shows them.

Your chat stays on your device

The converter is a small script that runs in your browser. It opens the file you choose, draws the chat on this page, and your browser's print window makes the PDF on your device. It never sends the file, the photos, or anything in them, to Circles or to anyone else. Once the page has loaded, it works with your internet switched off.

That is the same idea behind Circles itself: you decide which chats an AI gets to see. Read more on the security page.

Questions and answers

Is my chat uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file, draws the chat and makes the PDF on your device, and Circles never receives it. You can load the page, switch off your internet and the converter still works.

Why are there no photos in my PDF?

The photos come from an export with media. Export the chat again with Attach media on an iPhone or Include media on Android, and drop the .zip. Without them, each photo is named in its bubble.

Does it work for Hebrew chats?

Yes. A Hebrew chat is drawn right to left, and each message keeps its own direction, so Hebrew and English in the same chat both read well.

Can I use the PDF as evidence?

The PDF shows what the export holds, drawn by your browser. Whether it is accepted as evidence is for a lawyer or the court to say. Many keep the original export file too.

Does it work for big groups?

Yes, though a PDF of years of messages is long. WhatsApp's own help says an export holds up to the latest 10,000 messages with media, or 40,000 without.

How is this different from Circles?

The converter turns one export into a PDF, once. Circles connects your WhatsApp to your AI agent, so you can find any message by asking, in the chats you choose. See Circles' plans.
