WhatsApp voice note to text

Drop a voice note and read what it says. Free, with no account, in Hebrew, English, Spanish, Portuguese and many other languages.

Updated

Nothing from your voice note is kept, and it is not shared with anyone.

This free tool transcribes a WhatsApp voice note to text. Drop the .opus or .ogg file WhatsApp saves, or an .m4a or .mp3 recording, up to 10 minutes long and 10 a day. The audio goes to Circles, is transcribed by Soniox and is deleted right after; nothing from it is kept. It is a free tool from Circles, which connects your WhatsApp to your AI agent.

Want every voice note as text, without dropping it here?

With Circles, every voice note in the chats you choose arrives as text for your AI, to read, search and answer.

How to save a voice note from WhatsApp

WhatsApp keeps voice notes inside the app. Save one as a file first, then drop it above.

  1. On an iPhone

Touch and hold the voice note, tap Forward, then the share button at the bottom, and Save to Files. The file ends in .opus.

  2. On an Android phone

Touch and hold the voice note, tap the share button at the top, and save it to your files or send it to yourself. The file ends in .opus or .ogg.

  3. On a computer

In WhatsApp Web or the desktop app, open the menu on the voice note and choose Download. Then drop the file above.

The menu names change a little between WhatsApp versions; WhatsApp's own help page shows the current ones.

What happens to your voice note

The voice note goes from this page to Circles, over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Circles sends it to Soniox, the speech-to-text service Circles uses for every voice note, and gets the text back. Then the copy at Soniox, the file and its transcription, is deleted, and the text comes back to this page.

Circles keeps nothing from it: not the audio, not the text, not the file's name. What Circles counts is how many voice notes were transcribed today and how long they were, so it can keep the tool free for everyone.

Questions and answers

Is it really free?

Yes, with no account and no card. Each visitor can transcribe 10 voice notes a day, each up to 10 minutes long. If the tool is very busy on a given day, it asks you to try again the next day.

Which languages does it understand?

It expects Hebrew first, then English, Spanish and Portuguese, and it recognizes many other languages too. A voice note that switches between Hebrew and English is fine.

Is my voice note kept anywhere?

No. It goes to Circles, is transcribed by Soniox, and is deleted at Soniox right after. Circles keeps neither the audio nor the text.

WhatsApp can transcribe voice messages. Why use this?

WhatsApp's own transcripts work on the phone, one message at a time, in the languages it supports. This tool works on any computer or phone browser, and expects Hebrew first.

How is this different from Circles?

The tool transcribes one voice note you drop here. With Circles, every voice note in the chats you choose is transcribed as it arrives, so your AI agent reads it, searches it and answers it with the rest of the chat. See voice notes your agent can read.
